3 central North Dakotans die in I-94 crash in Montana
HYSHAM, Mont. -- Three central North Dakotans are dead after their SUV rolled over and crashed on Interstate 94 Thursday afternoon near Hysham, Montana, according to the Montana Highway Patrol.
Killed in the crash were Keith and Rose Grimm of Strasburg and Julia Erickson, 55, of Bismarck.
Rose Grimm, 52, was driving the SUV. Her husband, Keith, 60, and Erickson were both ejected from the vehicle and apparently weren’t wearing seatbelts, said Trooper Scott McDermott.
The SUV was traveling westbound on the interstate about 75 miles east of Billings when it had contact with another westbound SUV, said McDermott.
The North Dakota vehicle then rolled through the median and came to a stop in the eastbound lane. It's still unclear if the contact with the other SUV sent the vehicle rolling or if the crash was somehow related to the reaction of the driver after the initial contact between the two vehicles, according to McDermott.
"There's no indication that speed or alcohol were factors," McDermott said.
The three died at the scene of the crash that occurred about 12:30 p.m., said McDermott.
The crash remains under investigation.
